Quality Control Technician

Position: Quality Control Technician

Location: Harahan, LA

Job Summary:

As a Plant QC Technician, you will be accountable for the testing of raw materials and finished goods and ensuring compliance with company standards. You will assist plant leadership on a plantwide basis to create an environment of process control and continuous improvement.

Supervisory Responsibilities: In-Direct: Influence plant and operational processes across peer group


  • Follow all plant Safety rules and procedures
  • Conduct materials testing in accordance with FSP protocols including releasing of raw materials for production use, releasing of finished goods for commercial sale, and making recommendations to plant management for all other instances.
  • Leading quality assurance activities: implementing quality systems to improve overall customer experience, claims performance, product and packaging quality and detection of defects. This includes statistical analysis of plant data for trends and recommendations.
  • Reviewing existing products and their specifications
  • Documenting specification into standard work with manufacturing planning teams
  • Performing advanced quality planning on custom projects through mockups, use of measuring tools and equipment
  • Assist in developing, implementing, sustaining, and auditing robust quality management systems to ensure key product quality measures are achieved through controlled and predictable manufacturing processes
  • Providing continuous learning and skill development for plant employees
  • Providing training and ensuring competence of plant personnel who make product quality decisions; lead troubleshooting and corrective actions; providing recommendation relative to disposition of material
  • Partner for plant’s change management process to include testing and compliance processes so that critical-to-customer attributes are maintained or improved upon
  • Owning the external quality reporting and technical performance of supply chain quality performance
  • Driving continuous improvement in quality processes to the floor level
  • Advising production supervision on acceptability of finished goods relative to quality aspects; making decisions as to the acceptance or rejection of materials
  • Developing and maintaining quality visual standards for all products

Required Skills/Abilities:

  • Associates degree or higher in chemistry, construction or other science program
  • Experience in a make-to-order manufacturing environment – building materials preferred
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and organizational skills.
  • Excellent analyzing and troubleshooting skills.
  • Ability to grasp the problem at hand and take quick action to resolve it.
  • Communicates effectively and concisely to your team
  • Works harmoniously and with tact and diplomacy in dealing with a broad range of people.
  • Manages projects and achieves desired results efficiently and on time.
  • Demonstrated experience in Six Sigma/Lean manufacturing concepts including DMAIC, 5S, Control Charts, Standard Work, 7 Wastes and other project and CI skills.

Education and Experience:

  • Associate of Science Degree or Engineering discipline (required)
  • 5+ Years QC experience
  • Lean/Six Sigma Green Belt Certified (desired)
    • Statistics knowledge

  • Travel: 10% USA
