Product Marketing Manager

Reports to: VP & Global Commercial Director

JOB SUMMARY:   

Marketing leadership role with a general management orientation combining technical, analytical, and business skills to develop, communicate and implement marketing and product strategies consistent with the overall company growth strategy.  Lead cross functional teams in a matrix environment to optimize the product portfolio and develop new products that create value for customers, and exploit opportunities for growth through analysis of customers, competitors, market environment, and technology trends. Serve as the product line subject-matter expert from both a business and technical perspective and develop clear communication strategies and messaging for sales and marketing tools. This position is based in Shelton, CT.
                   
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:   

  • Product line strategy & leadership based on structured analyses

  • Evaluate and analyze customers, competitors, market environment, and technology trends and create data-driven business cases for the development of differentiated new products and/or programs yielding competitive advantages to drive profitable growth

  • Lead growth projects in a matrix organizational structure

  • Assemble and lead cross functional teams in a matrix organizational environment to drive new product or new marketing program development and introduction

  • Leverage technical and business expertise to manage product development activities through stage-gate processes; Manage the commercialization of newly developed products through R&D, operations, test marketing and sales.

  • Lead marketing activities with a general management orientation

  • Develop, communicate, and implement pricing strategies to achieve share, penetration, and profitability targets

  • Define, measure, and manage product and service quality targets and facilitate corrective action when defects occur

  • Ensure EH&S and Product Stewardship standards are maintained

  • Develop sales forecasts based on structured analyses of market, and competitive conditions, report to senior leadership team

  • Establish key commercial forecasts for market, price, and share in support of annual operating plan development

  • Ensure that key product and service features are maintained at best cost in conjunction with Operations and R&D

  • Support Selling Activities

  • Develop and define targeted sales support tools including but not limited to printed or electronic presentation materials, social media, video, product samples, and demo kits to facilitate the selling process for new and existing products

  • Manage ad agency relationships and internal marketing communication activities to facilitate production of advertising and promotional programs including the development of technical product performance collateral

  • Develop and implement business and technical training programs for Sales

These are the general duties required to fulfill the Product Marketing Manager position, not a detailed description of all work required. New duties and responsibilities may be required to meet the changing demands of the business.

PERSONAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Self-starter with strong leadership capabilities and a general management orientation

  • Combination of experience in chemicals / materials technologies, and business acumen; Construction related materials related experience is highly desirable
  • Demonstrated ability to translate technology-based product differentiation into marketable value propositions; experience with training sales teams to communicate those value propositions
  • Ability to manage projects in a matrix organizational structure; successful track record of team building and team leadership across functional and organizational lines
  • Ability to translate market trends and customer insights into profitable business opportunities
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills with experience at all organizational levels
  • Adept at developing product knowledge and sales approaches (including the willingness to do so first- hand) and being able to communicate and train on both
  • Travel (approx. 15%) may be required to meet business objectives

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering discipline, preferably Chemical Engineering or Materials Science & Engineering

  • Master of Business Administration is desirable
  • Minimum of 7 years’ experience in the building materials or related industry
  • Experience in both technical and business roles; Technical experience might include roles in R&D, Technical Service, or QC. Business experience might include roles in Sales, or Marketing
  • High level of competency using Microsoft Office products.  Experience with SalesForce software is desirable
