Position: Continuous Improvement Engineer

Reports To: Operations Manager

Location: New Orleans, LA

Job Summary:

Responsible to lead continuous improvement initiatives that will positively impact customer satisfaction, quality, and performance. The Continuous Improvement Engineer will also serve as the Subject Matter Expert for the Operations Team and grow a culture of continuous improvement.

The engineer will own the detailed planning and execution of all assigned projects and continuous improvement initiatives and will also be accountable for their success assuring compliance with safety, quality, cost, and delivery. The incumbent will recommend projects and initiatives that are in strategic alignment with goals, manage risks & changes, and deliver projects/initiatives successfully.

Supervisory Responsibilities: Project Management

Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Follow all Five Star EHS programs
  • Successfully manage projects to achieve all quality, performance, schedule, and cost objectives in a cross-functional environment. 
  • Independently execute prioritization, planning, scheduling, and tracking of objectives.
  • Partner with cross-functional teams (Product Marketing, Global Sourcing, Reliability, Suppliers, Manufacturing, etc.) to identify and clearly define customer requirements, and translate those requirements into appropriate product specifications
  • Implements design and process controls, conducts root-cause analysis, and apply statistical and Lean Six-Sigma techniques to maintain and improve product quality and costs as problems arise thru the product development cycle
  • Coordinates with Management to ensure programs are on track and identifies risk areas and suggest mitigation options to keep development moving in the right direction
  • Utilize Milestone process to develop and deliver technical design in support of new product development.
  • Develop time studies for processes, analyzing best use of manpower, improve delay data collection along with appropriate reason code, among other important tasks.
  • Serve as continuous improvement mentor for the floor staff and propagate the methodologies in the work culture.
  • Perform detailed project planning including but not limited to schedule and resources and successfully execute cross functional projects
Required Skills/Abilities:
  • Demonstrated experience in Lean manufacturing concepts including time studies, DMAIC, 5S, Control Charts, Kanban, Standard Work, 7 Wastes and other project and CI skills.
  • Strong communicator able to articulate a clear vision of the future state and provide direction, focus, and drive during the change process.
  • 3+ years of successful leadership experience in project management and facilitation of cross-functional teams in manufacturing operations and technology process improvement areas.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of key business financial metrics.
  • Ability to persistently pursue and achieve results. Uses data / analytics to proactively monitor and review plans to hit or exceed targets
  • Previous project management experience with a proven ability to successfully manage several projects simultaneously.

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor of Science Degree or Engineering discipline (required)
  • PMP certified or Equivalent certification on Project Management or Lean/Six Sigma Green Belt Certified (desired)

Other Requirements:  

  • Location: New Orleans, LA
  • Travel: 25% USA and Canada, 10% International as required

Physical Requirements:

  • Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds at times.
